Design thinking is an approach to innovation that utilises a range of proven methods and tools that places people at the centre of a process that focuses on their needs and desires.
The process of design thinking uses integrated and collaborative methodologies to identifying new business opportunities by identifying users needs and utilising appropriate technologies to create innovative business practices and offerings to deliver disruptive and innovative products and services.
Design Thinking is part of a Human Centred Design (HCD) process that place people at the centre of the design and innovation strategy. HCD combines are range of approaches and practices including: contextual and ethnographic research, market analysis and insights, data-driven business science, service design (SERVD), experience design (UX) and interaction design (UI) product design (PD).
At the core of the design process is design thinking (DT), a creative approach to problem solving and creativity that starts with the people (users) and culminates with innovative solutions that fulfil people’s needs and desires. It is a framework in which the needs, wants, and limitations of the end user of a product, service or process are given extensive attention at each stage of the design process from initial contextual and ethnographic research to idea generation and concept development. At each stage the user is asked to participate to test, validate and assess the design thinking.
